Nostra intervista al presidente di Opera Barga –
Siamo arrivati alla 41.ma edizione del Festival Opera Barga imperniato quest’anno su due progetti: il primo è dedicato a Giacomo Puccini, nell’anniversario dei 150 anni dalla sua nascita e questo omaggio spazierà anche sulla tradizionale musicale lucchese con una rappresentazione di Gaetano Giani Luporini, di cui sarà proposta l’opera ” Da Capo”.
Quale specifico omaggio al grande compositore lucchese invece, è prevista la nuova orchestrazione per canto e pianoforte di arie e canzoni pucciniane realizzata assieme ad un gruppo di compositori contemporanei di gran fama quali Marcello Panni, Sylvano Bussotti e giovani come Pippo Molino e Andrea Traversa.
Il secondo tema riguarda Musica nei Borghi, progetto itinerante che porterà la musica oltre che a Barga anche in altri comuni toscani: Bagnone (MS), Cutigliano, Abetone e Piteglio (PT). A questo progetto collaboreranno straordinari solisti provenienti dalle maggiori orchestre europee e la programmazione ruoterà intorno ai quartetti di Beethoven, in particolare dell’opera 18 e 59.
Dal 15 al 20 luglio la manifestazione sarà a Bagnone poi si sposterà all’Abetone, a Cutigliano ed a Popiglio.

The 41 edition of the festival is about to start. This year the festival will be looking at two projects: the first one is dedicated to Giacomo Puccini on the 150^th anniversary of his birth, and it will also cover music in the Lucca region. The homage to Puccini will be the opera ‘Da Capo’ by Lucca composer Gaetano Giacomo Luporini. There will also be new orchestral arrangements of Puccini pieces for voice and piano, created with a group of contemporary composers.Nicholas Hunt, chairman of Opera Barga explained in the interview the reasons for this choice: ‘ Luporini, a composer of contemporary music, expresses in this opera the continuity present in the music tradition of the ‘Lucchesia’.Many composers have accepted to take part in this project linking the past to the present; the challenge is arranging these pieces for orchestra and well-known names are participating – Marcello Panni, Sylvano Bussotti and also young musicians like Pippo Molino and Andrea Traversa.
Opera Barga will be expecting you on the 25^th of July for the opening concert at the Teatro dei Differenti in Barga, and the festival will continue until August 3^rd.The second project has to do with Music in the Townships. This is an itinerant project where other municipalities are involved as well as the Comune of Barga, for instance Bagnone (MS), Cutigliano, Abetone and Piteglio (PT).Soloists of excellence from major European orchestras will be taking part, and the programme will be arranged around Beethoven’s quartets, mainly opus 18 and 59. The performances will be in Bagnone from the 15^th to the 20^th of July to continue in Abetone, Cutigliano and Popiglio.
