Saint Cristopher’s Festival on 24th and 25th July.

One of the highlights of the summer is the festival dedicated to Saint Christopher, the Patron Saint of Barga. As usual, the celebrations will be held on 24th and 25th July, starting with the solemn Saint Christopher’s procession, always attended by many people because one of the most striking religious events of the area.The relics of the Saint will be carried during this magnificent procession, which will be on 24th July, starting from Sacro Cuore Church at 9pm and ending at the Duomo.

All the municipalities of the area will join the procession, each one with their own representative flag. Like every year, the municipality of Florence will participate, joined by the extraordinary extras representing the “Calcio Storico Fiorentino” (Florentine historic football, an early form of football that originated in 16th century).

There will also be representatives from the municipality of Pisa and from the Associazione Historica Lucense of Lucca. We expect it to be a spectacular procession, like every year. At the end of this, in the Duomo, the Mayor of Barga will be reading of a prayer to Saint Cristopher and the relics of the Saint will be consecrated.

On 24th there will also be the opening of the exhibition dedicated to Swietlan Kraczyna.

On 25th, there will be a Mass celebrated at the Duomo at 11am. To conclude the two days of celebration, there will the presentation of the “San Cristoforo d’Oro” Prize, an awards given by the Municipality to the deserving people of Barga and to eminent personalities.
