The historical centre will come alive on Sunday 17th August with the opening of the 2014 edition of the Barga Jazz Festival. Sound Street Band, Moraldo Marcheschi Quartet, Claudia Tellini and Nicola Vernuccio, Nino Pellegrini, Bianca Barsanti, Simone Venturi & Bjclub open session and many Jazz groups will fill the the streets and squares of the town with their music. At 6 pm Vittorio Alinari “Alchimie” will peform at the Duomo di S. Cristoforo while in the evening in Piazza Angelio you can listen to the quartet of Nico Gori, Alessandro Lanzon Stefano Tamborrino and Gabriele Evangelista.
On the 18th and 19th August the BargaJazz Contest will take place dedicated to four talented groups selected for the finals: Head Project Trio, Francesco Massagli Quartet, Illogic Trio and Giulia Facco Quintet.
On the 20th Paul McCandless & West Coast Jazz Quintet. The founder of the Oregon will present his new pieces with Andrea Pellegrini, Marco Cattani, Francesco Desiato, Mirco Capecchi, Michele Vannucci.
On Thursday 21st Paolo Fresu will present his work “Mistico Mediterraneo” at the theatre with Daniele Di Bonaventura and the choir “A Filetta”. Fresu is one of the most important Italian jazz musicians and known world-wide and is the guest of honour of this year’s festival.
On 22nd and 23rd the XXVII competition of arrangement and composition for orchestra jazz with the BargaJazz Orchestra directed by Mario Raja with Paolo Fresu.
The 25th and 26th August will be dedicated to the relationship between popolar music and Jazz with the stage for young artists held by Nicolao Valiensi along with Bruno Tommaso and Francesco Martinelli.
On the 27th Homage to Billy Strayhorn by Alessandro Fabbri with con Maurizio Giammarco, Ares Tavolazzi, Roberto Rossi, Fabrizio Gaudino, Alberto Serpente and Dario Duso.
On the 28th CRIG (Collettivo di Ricerca e Improvvisazione Garfagnino) popular music and jazz with Nicolao Valiensi, Piero Gaddi, Fabrizio Desideri, Renzo Telloli, Alessandro Rizzardi , Marco Micheli , Daniele Paoletti .
On Friday 29th Barga meets the Nordic Jazz players Lars Jansson (Swedish pianist) and Jan Harberck from Denmark accompanied by Nino Pellegrini and Vladimiro Carboni.
The final evening on Saturday 30th will be dedicated to the organ Hammond with John Paul Gard trio and Alberto Gurrisi Quartet. Music acconpanied by a wine-tasting event in collaboration with the Lucca association of biodinamic producers “In direzione del sole”.
